Saudi Grand Mufti urges Muslims to use internet to combat terrorism

 

Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh has advised Muslims from around the world to launch an internet campaign on the wrong ideologies of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS), through social media as a tool. Grand Mufti made the call during a conference attended by scholars, students, social scientists and military chiefs. “Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Sheikh assured that it is important to fight terrorism and misleading ideologies by cooperating between the assigned authorities and intellectuals and members of the society to raise the upcoming generation in a good manner,” state news agency SPA reported. "That who called for joining deviant groups is mistaken and offending, because these deviant groups kill each other without mercy and took advantage of our young people, unfortunately, killing many of them and taking many of them prisoners,” he said. “So, we should not be quiet about them,” the Grand Mufti added, referring to ISIS as a terrorist groups. He said Muslims should cooperate to fight violent extremists, adding that it was the responsibility of every Muslim to exert all efforts to defend Islam and refrain from such acts. He also acknowledged the importance of media to play a vital role in spreading awareness and reality about the harmful implications of joining such criminal groups. He said ISIS' action of burning prisoners of war, such as the Jordanian pilot, has against the teaching of Islam and that their attempts to justify that through Islamic Law are baseless.
