Eight Indian soldiers wounded in attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir ahead of Mo

 

Indian-controlled Kashmir, (Xinhua): At least eight Indian border guards of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) were wounded after militants attacked their convoy in Indian- controlled Kashmir, police said Tuesday. The attack was carried out Monday night at Pampore town, about 15 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian- controlled Kashmir. “Last night at around 10:15 p.m. (local time) militants attacked a BSF convoy in Pampore and wounded eight personnel including an officer,” said a police official posted in Pampore. ” The bus carrying BSF personnel was attacked from two sides of road and all the wounded have been hit by bullets fired with AK-47 rifles.” The wounded border guards were immediately removed to military hospital in Srinagar and condition of two was reported to be critical. Police officials said militants have not suffered any damage in the attack. A guerrilla war is going on between militants and Indian troopers stationed in the region since 1989. The attack came hours ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to restive Indian-controlled Kashmir’s Ladakh province. Modi on Tuesday reached Ladakh to inaugurate two power projects at Leh and Kargil districts. Police official said the BSF men were returning to its camp at Pantachowk, in outskirts of Srinagar. According to India’s official broadcaster, following the attack, security has been further strengthened across the Muslim majority province ahead of India’s Independence Day celebrations. Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched in the area to nab the attackers, reports said. On Monday, the border guards of India and Pakistan fired on each other’s position on international border (IB) in Kashmir. The Indian side said two border guards and two civilians were wounded due to Pakistani firing, while as Pakistan says the Indian firing killed a woman and wounded two others.
