Australian Muslim launch television studio to counter anti-Islamic media campaig

Members of Sydney's Muslim community have established a not-for-profit television studio to counter the mainstream media's treatment of Islam and show the true meaning of Islam in Australia. The One Path Network films and edits videos for its YouTube channel and conducts interviews with Muslim Scholars and Imams about Islamic teachings and current affair news. The Network aims to spread the message of Islam between Muslims and non-Muslims. Main reason to launch the One Path Network is to correct the negative depiction of Islam portrayed by the mainstream media, which is causing a rift among Muslims and the rest of the Australian community. It was funded with $ 1 million by community donations, and is staffed by a team of over 20 volunteers. Organizers say it was set up to provide “authentic Islamic knowledge using a professional contemporary approach”. One Path Network features English-language programs that seek to counter mainstream media’s portrayal of Islam. “This is a time where there is a lot of pressure on the Muslim community,” Malaz Majanni, Head of the One Path, told ABC News. “This is a time where there is a lot of pressure on the Muslim community," Mr. Majanni said. "Unfortunately, you do find that with the mainstream media, sometimes we are misrepresented, lost in translation... here, we are able to make sure that a clear message is sent out.” "The media is an essential part of everyday life and a very powerful tool influencing values and ideas. The world is constantly changing and we are connected more than ever. There are great opportunities in using media to showcase the religion of Islam," posted on Studio’s website. The Network has provided its own take on major events, including the Sydney siege. Recently a survey report released on opinion of Australian Muslim community, study found that more than two-third Australian Muslims believed the media treat Muslims in unfair way..
