138th birth anniversary observed: Allama Iqbal’s efforts for independence of M


Al Muslim (Pakistan Office) 138th birth anniversary of its national poet Allama Iqbal visiting his mausoleum at Hazori Bagh here and paid rich tribute to his efforts for encouraging colonial-Muslims of British Raj at Hindustan to get independence. With the dawn of the day, a special ceremony of changing of guards held at the mausoleum in presence of a large number of people who were present there to see it with great fervor and enthusiasm. They also offered prayers for the rest of his soul. Among the celebrities who visited the mausoleum are included Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, MNA Pervez Malik, MPA Khawaja Imran Nazir, Lahore Station Commander and delegations of Punjab University and Government College University students headed by Prof Dr Ehsan Malik and Prof Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman. During the visit, Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar while talking to media said that all the problems facing the nation could be resolved following the teachings of Allama Iqbal as a great Islamic philosopher and thinker. Prof Khaleeq of GCU while talking to media during his visit to Iqbal’s mausoleum said that Allama Iqbal is an Old Ravian (a student of Government College) and his poetry spells out a manifesto for purposeful change. He said Iqbal’s philosophy was a beacon of light for youth and guaranteed the Muslim renaissance. Prof Dr Ehsan Malik of PU recorded his views in the visitors’ book writing that contradictions between beliefs and actions became cause of destruction of nations. He further wrote that May we serve mankind in the light of Khudi and Eman and this was the message of Allama Iqbal in his poetry. Allama Iqbal was born on November, 9 in 1877 in Sialkot and died April 21, 1938. He went to Government College Lahore before heading to UK and Germany for higher education. By profession, he was a lawyer and an active politician of All India Muslim League of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In connection with the birth anniversary of the national poet, various functions were also arranged to mark the day, with special programmes to be aired on the state-run and private radios and TV channels, highlighting various aspects of Allama Iqbal. While, a special ceremony with the title of ‘International Iqbal Conference was held by the Iqbal Academy here at Aiwan-e-Iqbal in which good number of scholars and intellectuals including daughter-in-law of Allama Iqbal participated. Punjab Governor presided over the conference while Federal Minister for Information Pervez Rasheed also attended..
